Alice In Borderland is a live-action series based on a Japanese suspense shōnen manga series. Directed by Shinsuke Satō, the new show is based on a lesser-known manga by the name of Alice In Borderland; the manga was also adapted for a three-episode animation series in 2014, the post-apocalyptic setting of the series feels right at home for Netflix as we have seen many shows to dive into the same.
Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming series:
Alice In Borderland (Manga):
Alice In Borderland first came out as a manga in 2010 and was created by Haro Aso; the publication Shonen Sunday Super ran the manga till 2016.
While Alice in Borderland came to an end, the series resulted in two spin-offs which were named as Alice on Borderroad and Chi no Kyokuchi – Daiya no King-hen (Land of Wisdom – King of Diamonds Arc)-.
The Manga was further adapted in another media form as a three-episode “Original Video Animation” and was produced by Silver Link.
Alice In Borderland Cast:
With the announcement of the series last year, it was also announced that the cast members of the show would include Tao Tsuchiya and Kento Yamazaki in the roles of the protagonists Yuzuhu and Alice, respectively.
The two actors have worked on many live-action anime adaptations; Tao appeared on the adaptation of Rurouni Kenshin and Kento appeared in Kingdom which was also directed by Shinsuke Satō.
There is no update on the rest of the cast of the movie.
The Plot Of Alice In Borderland:
The official synopsis that is given by Netflix is “With his two friends, a video-game-obsessed young man finds himself in a strange version of Tokyo where they must compete in dangerous games to survive.”
While the synopsis is not very insightful, as it is an adaptation we can view the plot of the manga to know more about the upcoming series, though we should be wary that Netflix may have made changes to the plot of the show.
The original manga revolves around the character Ryohei Arisu known as Alice in English, the character leads a dull, meaningless life and is very fed up with it to the point of it being intolerable for him.
As he is hanging out with his two friends Karube and Segawa, on seeing the light during some fireworks Arisu wishes that his life was different, his wish come true when the three friends are mysteriously transported to a parallel post-apocalyptic world.
The three there are greeted by a woman who tells them that the trio has entered the game and now they must play games in the place known as Borderland to survive in the world.
Alice In Borderland Release Date:
The live-action series was green-lit last year and is expected to arrive in 2020 with no official release date.
Though the chances of the release of the series this year don’t look so good as the global situation has stopped the production of every major series and movie all over the world, and Alice In Borderland might have suffered the same.
As yet, there has been no statement from the producers; they have neither released a specific date nor confirmed the delay of the series.
