Finally, the iconic 1984 Ghostbusters movie is getting a sequel. Or should we say threequel? What about Feig’s 2016 reboot? We at The Hollywood Tribune have collected everything that you need to know about Ghostbusters: Afterlife!
When Does Ghostbusters Afterlife Release?

Actually, in another universe, the movie would’ve already released! Ghostbusters: Afterlife was initially set to release on July 10th, 2020. The COVID-19 situation has caused a delay in its release by almost a year.
Sony Pictures has now rescheduled for the release of Ghostbusters: Afterlife to the 5th of March, 2021.
What Is The Plot Of Ghostbusters Afterlife?

Set nearly 30 years after the first movie, Ghostbusters: Afterlife will now revolve around the lives of the late Dr Egon Spengler’s (played by late Harold Davis) grandkids, Phoebe and Trevor. Moving in a different direction, quite literally, the movie will be set in the town of Summerville, Oklahoma instead of New York City.
Phoebe and Trevor, along with their mum Callie, after being evicted, move into the farmhouse left behind by their grandfather. The geeky Phoebe stumbles upon one of the gadgets used by the OG Ghostbusters to fight the paranormal. This leads to Phoebe and Trevor finding out about their connection to the forgotten parapsychologists. Mysterious events happening around town calls for the duo, along with their science teacher Mr Grooberson to save the day, just like how the Ghostbusters did it in the Manhattan Crossrip of 1984.
It has to be noted that Ghostbusters: Afterlife will not be following the events of the 2016 Ghostbusters remake. Reportedly, this is because the remake is set in a whole another universe. This settlement received severe backlash from the 2016 movie’s crew since it completely denies the existence of the film. In addition to that, the release of Ghostbusters: Afterlife will also make it impossible for the film to have any possible sequels in the future.
Who Is In The Cast Of Ghostbusters Afterlife?

The lead characters Phoebe and Trevor will be played by Troop Zero’s Mckenna Grace and Stranger Things’ Finn Wolfhard. Critic’s Choice Award winner, Carrie Coon of The Leftovers will be playing their single mother, Callie.
Ant Man’s Paul Rudd will also be in the movie. Rudd will be portraying the extremely hilarious seismologist and the kids’ teacher, Mr Grooberson.
The film will also see the return of cast members from the ‘84 movie. Dan Aykroyd will be reprising his role as Dr Raymond Stantz along with Ernie Hudson as Winston Zeddemore. Dana Barrett will be played by Sigourney Weaver and Janine Melnitz by Annie Potts.
Lastly, Bill Murray will also be returning as Dr Peter Venkman. This time for real! Murray was known to turn down a previous Ghostbuster sequel script because it wasn’t good enough. This cancelled the production of the next instalment of the Ghostbuster franchise- Ghostbusters in Hell.
Sony then decided to produce a reboot instead. With an all-female lead, Ghostbusters did terribly in the box-office, incurring almost $70 million loss to the Studio. This caused the studio to go back to plans of making a sequel. Written and directed by the son of the original Ghostbuster movie director, Jason Reitman, Ghostbusters: Afterlife finally sported a script that Murray found fitting!
