There’s a tiny part in all of us that wants to know what it’s like to be stinking rich, I mean so rich that you can use money bills as tissues. If you’re saying no, you’re probably lying. While some of us work towards living that life, the rest of us normal folks can always watch people being stinky rich within the comforts of our couch! Set in the 20s, The Great Gatsby surely fit the expectations with its elaborate parties and huge mansions.
But is The Great Gatsby the only movie that allows us to enjoy the rich people life, without actually having to lift a finger? By no means at all! Here we have movies that show us the pompous nature of the life of the wealthy, just like the life of Jay Gatsby!
Marie Antoinette (2006)

Directed by Sophia Coppola, Marie Antoinette had to be the first movie in our list because of the fantastic portrayal of the prosperous French royalty, the last monarchs. Being the archduchess of Austria and the youngest among her siblings, Marie Antionette is married off to the French Prince Louis-Auguste. The movie aptly portrays how detached the nobles are from the common people. Wearing extravagant dresses and partying hard, Marie Antoinette sure knows how to have fun!
The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)

Whoever wrote “Money doesn’t make you happy” wasn’t right, at least not entirely! Jordan Belfort is a Wall Street stockbroker. A really good one. Determined to earn millions, he comes off successful. The Wolf of Wall Street shows the story of Jordan who goes from a nobody to somebody with millions in literally the blink of an eye. And what do you do when you have so much money? You live the extravagant life you’ve always wanted. Booze, parties, drugs. You name it, he has it!
The Bling Ring (2013)

Man, Coppola sure does know how to highlight the high life in many ways. The Bling Ring might just be a tiny bit relatable when it comes to the feeling of wanting to be rich. A group of teenagers make up their mind that fate will not be deciding how posh they could be, they would. So, they go to famous celebrities’ houses, Paris Hilton, Megan Fox and Orlando Bloom to name a few. Looking at the affluent lifestyle, the gang is obviously flabbergasted. Accordingly, they just rob the celebs, because everyone deserves a taste of richness!
Arthur (2011)

Starring Russell Brand, the movie is a remake of the 1981 film of the same name. Being the only heir of a wealthy family, Arthur doesn’t really know how to sustain the money. Basically, a childish man. And what do kids do when they are given the money? They buy Batman suits. Initially arranged to be married to somebody of his mum’s choice, everything changes when he falls in love with a commoner.
Crazy Rich Asians (2018)

The movie is so high life, it even has the word “rich” in its name! Having an all-Asian cast, Crazy Rich Asians is the first Hollywood movie to do so in 25 years. Rachel Chu is suddenly faced with the reality that her long-time boyfriend Nick Young is actually the most sought-after bachelor in all of Singapore. The movie definitely makes us high-key feel bad for our bank account balance. Crazy Rich Asians highlights the noble life, how different it is from Rachel’s middle-class life and the difficulties that follow.
That’s all folks! Now you know what to watch when you want a peek into the culture of the wealthy, along with that penniless feeling at the back of your mind.
