Fantasy series are often tough to produce because there’s a very fine line between what is seen as cringe and what as cool. The Japanese anime, Overlord, knows how to walk that line perfectly! Having only three seasons released until now, the series has already gained immense popularity among anime fans and critics alike. Will there be an Overlord Season 4? Find out below!
Overlord Season 4: Release Date

The first season of Overlord was released in the September of 2015, with 13 episodes. The second and third seasons were both released in 2018, again with 13 episodes each. Keeping the third season’s finale in mind, Overlord Season 4 seems highly likely. But showrunners have not yet confirmed the rumour.
Initially expected to have a late 2020 or early 2021 release, Overlord Season 4 is expected to suffer a delay, much like many other productions, because of the epidemic. Only reports that come close to confirmations is scriptwriter Yuki Sugawara mentioning possibilities of Overlord Season 4 in the anime convention, AnimagiC held in 2019.
Overlord Season 4: Plot

Adapted from the manga series of novels written by Kugane Maruyama, the dark fantasy series, Overlord sees the adventures of a person stuck inside the most famous role play game, YGGDRASIL because of game servers shutting down. YGGDRASIL was released in the year 2126 and quickly gained fan following. But after 12 years of runtime, the game slowly starts losing its charm. Players began to concentrate more on their real lives instead of their virtual ones. This lead to the developers deciding to shut the game down.
Set in the year 2138, where drive massively multiplayer online role-playing (DMMO-RPG) games were extensively popular, Overlord sure seems like the new-age Jumanji!
The third season’s finale saw combat between the lead character, Ainz and the antagonist, Gazef. With Gazef defeated, Ainz finally rules the Sorcerer Kingdom. But due to lack of experience and exposure, struggles. His faithful companion, Albedo comes to his rescue, helping and guiding him.
The fourth season is speculated to venture through Ainz’s struggles and difficulties. Season 4 is also expected to introduce new characters since the Kingdom has been conquered now. Additionally, if the show continues to go by the written work in its fourth season, Overlord Season 4 has high probabilities of having a somewhat awkward ending because the show would run out of written material that earlier worked as a guide.
Overlord Season 4: Cast

The main characters from previous seasons are slated to return for Season 4. Overseer of the Guardians of the Great Tomb of Nazarick, Albedo, will be played by Yumi Hara. Satoshi Hino will be returning as the main protagonist, Momonga alias Ainz.
The Commander of the NPC defences, Demiurge, will be voiced by Masayuki Katou. Manami Numukara will again be playing Narberal Gamma and finally, Sumire Uesaka as Shalltear Bloodfallen.
Produced by Madhouse Studios, the series has so far been directed by Naoyuki Ito with So-Bin doing the illustrations. Although expected, confirmations are to be made regarding the production crew.
