The Old Guard was well-received by audiences after its premiere in July and has already generated a massive fan base. Fans cannot stop raving about when The Old Guard 2 will be coming to the screens.
The way things ended in the first film has made a lot of fans wonder what The Old Guard 2 will be like. Well, it is kind of evident that the film would come out with a sequel considering its superhero-esque appeal.
The Old Guard ended with a cliffhanger and left fans gasping to find out what happens next. With a unique character ‘Quynh’ coming back from an underwater prison, it has created a room for The Old Guard 2 for sure.
However, another factor that needs to be looked at is Netflix’ algorithm data, which will be the leading factor in the preproduction process. It will be assessing the way the audience received the Old Guard, and only then will the streaming service confirm a sequel.
Since it was loved by all, including the critics, it is high time that we get a confirmation on the sequel, and we pray that it will be announced soon.
Here are all the details that you need to know about The Old Guard 2
Possible plot-line for The Old Guard 2:
Charlize Theron teased us with the apparent plot details of The Old Guard 2 on Late Night With Seth Meyers. She seemed really excited about exploring the new character and the storyline that follows her.
Theron talked about the character of Quynh and how she comes back from a 500 year long torturous punishment. She used to be Andy’s right-hand woman. “She was, the two of them, were the first. There’s obviously a relationship there that we didn’t really explore in this film.” The Mad Max actress added.
Fan-theories for The Old Guard 2:
Considering the cliffhanger at the end of the first film, it is not surprising that Quynh’s return could mean that she will be the villain in The Old Guard 2. Imagine spending more than 500 years underwater, having no one to talk to no one to see and with no one to save her, and it must have driven her insane.
If you look closely, her body language and the expressions did not signify that she came back as an ally. Since Andy left her friend behind for a really long time, Quynh might not even be aware of Andy’s attempts to locate and save her. Quynh might hold this grudge and turn against Andy.
Secondly, Another Old Guard member may lose their mortality. It would be heartbreaking to see Joe or Nick having to come to terms with the possibility of losing one another after so many years of love. Since the movie is celebrated for its LGBTQ narrative, it doesn’t really make sense to get one of them killed. Romantic tragedy sounds like a brilliant idea, but the possibility of this happening is bleak.
Third, Andy might get her immortality back in The Old Guard 2. The first film strayed from the comic by making Andy lose her immortality towards the end of the first film. While it is true that these immortals do eventually die at some point in time, they usually end up dead, unlike Andy, who was seen alive and well at the end of the first film.
In the comic book, it ends with a situation in which Andy has to be immortal to survive. Since the team cannot really afford to lose Andy as a character in this franchise, they are probably working on restoring her immortality for good.
We predict that The Old Guard 2 will pick up from where the first film left off. We totally dig some of these theories and can’t wait to see what surprises this sequel may have in store for us.
Even if Andy gets her immortality back or Quynh becomes the antagonist, it would be amazing to watch the two powerful women battle it out on screen.
