If you mention Lucifer to someone right now and they are a fan of the show or even familiar with the show, the first image to pop in their heads would be of Tom Ellis.
Tom Ellis started playing the iconic role of Lucifer Morningstar back in 2016 when the show ran on Fox and over the four seasons the actor has won the hearts of the show’s fan so much so that it is very difficult to imagine any other actor as Lucifer.
The irresistible charm, the chaotic smile and the brilliant portrayal of The Devil has built up quite a big fan base for Ellis, though he is known for portraying different characters on various tv series, Lucifer remains one of his most prominent roles in the tv industry.
Personal Life:
Speaking to Belfast Telegraph, Ellis noted, “Fatherhood is a huge part of my life and the toughest thing about this job is being away from the girls.”
“I think the most important thing is that they know I love them and they love me.”
“Although we keep in touch with Skype and by text and they come and visit during their school holidays, there’s no substitute for being with them day-to-day.”
Career:
While Lucifer has been the pinnacle of the actor’s stint in the tv industry, there have been several other shows that Ellis has been a part of, in major and minor roles.
Here are 6 of the top shows Ellis has worked on in different capacities:
Tom Ellis In ‘Rush’
Tom Ellis portrayed the lead role in the medical drama. His character was much like Lucifer, a hard-partying doctor who had drug and alcohol problems. The doctor had a very specific clientele of the rich and high-level people in the city and often involved cash-only transactions and a high amount of secrecy.
The show follows William Rush (Ellis) as he is fired from an LA hospital and gets into an odd line of work where he visits the homes of his rich patients to take care of them with complete secrecy. The job involves Rush taking a huge amount of money in advance from the patients and then using the money to facilitate his drug and alcohol problem.
Other characters include Rush’s drug dealer Manny Maquis, his secretary Eve Parker, and his best friend Dr. Alex Burke, who is an honest doctor, unlike Rush.
Merlin
The British drama ran for 65 episodes spanning across 2008 to 2012 on BBC One and featured a large ensemble cast. The series gained a lot of popularity and gained an enormous fan base as it proceeded through the seasons.
In the show, Ellis played the role of Cenred, ruler of a kingdom composed of Ealdor, Merlin’s home village, and is also a neighbor of Camelot.
Though Ellis doesn’t have many appearances in the show, still his character plays an important role as he supports Morgana and Morgause in their plot to assassinate Arthur and take over Camelot, though Cenred is ultimately betrayed by Morgause and he orders one of Cenred’s soldiers to kill him.
Miranda
The show took inspiration from a BBC Radio comedy by Miranda, Miranda Hart’s Joke Shop (2008), and centers its story around the socially awkward Miranda.
Ellis plays the role of Gary Preston on the hit comedy show, Gary works as a Chef in the local cafe and plays the role of the primary love interest for Miranda throughout the series. While he rejects Miranda at first, the two get together eventually and get married even after a broken engagement.
This is another prominent role that Tom Ellis played in a television series other than Lucifer.
The Flash
While it might be hard to grasp what Lucifer is doing in the DC universe for the Lucifer fans, the explanation is very simple, Lucifer takes its inspiration from a comic book Vertigo, a DC imprint that shut down some time ago published that.
So technically, Lucifer is one of the DC characters and thus made an appearance in the crossover episode when Constantine needed to visit hell.
The Fades
The series follows a 17-year-old boy by the name of Paul who is troubled by apocalyptic dreams. Paul is Angelic, a human who possesses a special ability to see the spirits of the dead who have not been able to move to the afterlife, the spirits are known as Fades.
In the show, Ellis plays the role of Paul’s history teacher, Mark Etches, who is also the husband of a Fade, Sarah Etches who was an Angelic when she was alive. Ellis’ character appears in all six of the episodes.
Doctor Who
Ellis appears in the last episode of the third series, Last of the Time Lords, he plays the role of Thomas Milligan, a medic who assists Martha Jones in her mission to stop the Master from taking over the earth and bring back the Doctor.
That brings us to the end of the list of the top 6 shows that Tom Ellis is a part of other than Lucifer.
Fun Fact: Tom Ellis is best friends with James McAvoy, the one and only Professor Charles Xavier, as the two of them met while studying in the same drama school and not only Ellis invited McAvoy to his wedding, McAvoy was the one who introduced Tom to his first wife, Tamzin Outhwaite.
