Since the year has started, we have had a lot to deal with. A lot of not so nice things, ahem, if you know what I mean. But that should not be killing the spirit. There are loads of reasons for us to hold our heads high. We’ve already heard about the release of next-gen gaming console from both Sony and Microsoft, but what about the upcoming games in 2020? This year is definitely the year for video games, if not for other things. With so many exciting upcoming game releases this year, we at The Hollywood Tribune have shortlisted, the best, and ONLY the best games that are yet to be released this year.
Cyberpunk 2077
Be it a novice or an expert gamer, Cyberpunk 2077 should not be surprising you. We would be lying through our teeth if we said that the game is not one of the most anticipated upcoming games in 2020. Developed by CD Projekt RED after the critically acclaimed Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Cyberpunk 2077 is set to release in November 2020 on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Google Stadia as of now. From all the gameplay footage and trailers we’ve seen, Cyberpunk 2077 lowkey reminds us of Grand Theft Auto, but with cool futuristic tech.
Star Wars: Squadrons
Who doesn’t love a good nostalgic feel of the classic flight combat game? Developed by Motive Studios, Star Wars: Squadrons is one of the latest upcoming games in 2020. EA has revealed the next instalment of the Star Wars franchise, to be released in October 2020 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. After the mediocre response received by Star Wars Jedi: The Fallen Order, Squadron promises a better experience.
Halo Infinite
Following the events of Halo 5: Guardians, Halo Infinite is the sixth instalment and a “spiritual reboot” of the series and is reported to be one of the upcoming games in 2020 on PC, XBox Series X and XBox One, making the game to be the first in the Halo series to be released on PC. Introducing a new engine named Slipspace, 343 Industries has ensured that the game would be at par with the latest series X. Infinite is also the first confirmed next-gen title, making the wait even harder! Did you know that Halo Infinite has a pug voice actor to make alien noises? Neither did we!
This first-person game brings back Master Chief to the main role, as desired by fans who were earlier disappointed at the minimal representation of the character. Infinite follows more of a sandbox theme and a non-linear storyline, unlike the previous instalments.
Marvel’s Avengers
What is better than one comic book adaptation of The Avengers? TWO! After the massive success of the Avengers movie series, Crystal Dynamics revealed a video game featuring the superheroes- Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk and Black Widow. Marvel’s Avengers will be one of the upcoming games in 2020 stipulated to release in September 2020 on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Google Stadia.
Marvel’s Avengers is an attempt at giving us an opportunity to play as our favourite superheroes from the beloved MCU. And honestly, we have a very strong feeling that it’s a successful attempt. Set in San Francisco, the upcoming game is a third-person action-adventure. After being separated for five years, The Avengers are now forced to reunite to fight a powerful enemy.
Ghost Of Tsushima
Best known for the Infamous series of action games, Sucker Punch has come up with a new single-player Samurai game, and we couldn’t be happier! The upcoming game will be released as a PlayStation exclusive in July 2020. Although Ghost of Tsushima has been around for a while now, the sudden disappearance only means one thing: A Better Version! There is also a possibility that the game could be moved to the newly released PlayStation 5.
Ghost of Tsushima is a third-person open-world game that is set in the year 1274. The game takes place in Japan, which has been invaded by Mongols. The visuals are nothing but beautiful and utterly compelling. It revolves around the last standing Samurai-Jin Sakai who now has to master the way of the ghost in order to free Japan from the oppressors. Definitely one of the most awaited upcoming games in 2020!
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
The legendary action series is back, and better! Ubisoft has revealed the release of this heavily anticipated upcoming game, succeeding the 2018 Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey in December 2020 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Google Stadia. Valhalla will be featuring a new take on the RPG elements we saw in Odyssey.
