New fan art depicting Willem Dafoe as The Joker in the upcoming Batman movie has surfaced and frankly, it is quite intimidating.
Recent rumours have suggested that director Matt Reeves is looking to re-introduce the Joker in a sequel to the Robert Pattinson starrer Batman and social media has been flooded with fan suggestions about stars best suited for the role.
Is Willem Dafoe an actor capable of playing The Joker?
Robert’s The Lighthouse co-star Willem Dafoe has been the most popular suggestion. Willem has played the role of the Green Goblin in Tobey Maguire’s Spiderman and the role of Nuidis Vulko in Aquaman, proving that he can play disturbed characters and villains.
Pattinson’s Batman voice is apparently inspired by Dafoe’s accent in The Lighthouse, according to the man himself.
Dafoe is a commendable actor and fans think he would bring a lot to the role of The Joker if he ever played it.
The fan art in question
A design from ‘anarchy_graphicsllc’ on Instagram portrays Willem Dafoe’s Joker for The Batman sequel, and it’s a terrifying presentation of what the actor could look like as the acclaimed villain.
It’s a simple edit, with Dafoe in the green hair and the (classic) creepy grin on his face. The piece of art is heavily reminiscent of Brian Azzarello and Lee Bermejo’s Joker comic series. If the Joker really is on the cards for the Caped Crusader’s sequel, Willem Dafoe’s portrayal as the villain would be a marvellous addition.
The Batman movie
Director Matt Reeves co-wrote the Batman with Mattson Tomlin. The film stars Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.
Although the plot of the movie is still being kept hidden, fans have speculated it will revolve around a younger version of the defender of Gotham City, Bruce Wayne and his formative years.
The Batman will also feature the hero making use of his detective skills more than has been shown before in other versions of the movie iterations of the caped crusader.
This film is also expected to be the first instalment in a new trilogy starring Robert Pattinson as Batman and is currently set to hit theatres on October 1, 2021.
