Hey You! I don’t know about all of you, but I am definitely excited for Season 3. Those of you, who enjoy watching a Psychological Thriller Series, are in the right place! Read on for season 3 news and a quick recap.
Caution: HEAVY SPOILERS ahead. So if you are not all caught up…what are you waiting for?
Season 3 of the show You has been officially confirmed by Netflix in January 2020. The 3rd season will consist of 10 episodes as was the case with the first two seasons. It was originally set to stream in 2021, but as of now, no details have been confirmed if the pandemic will delay the show.
The co-creator and executive producer Sera Gamble has hinted that the third run could see an even more exciting storyline, telling Cosmopolitan UK: “I will say that we have an idea for season three that is SO exciting that people talk about it in the [writer’s] room every day.”
Everything we know so far
In season 1, we saw Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) becoming infatuated with Guinevere Beck (Elizabeth Lail), a budding writer, thinking its love. He becomes so obsessed with her that he resorts to murder and manipulation to make her stay. He is seen using social media to do everything he can to woo Guinevere.
We also see Beck digging around in Joe’s stuff that eventually leads to her death. Season 1 ends with the sudden appearance of Candace Stone portrayed by Ambyr Childers (Joe’s “supposedly dead” ex-girlfriend), leaving viewers unhinged.
Season 2 shows Joe or Will (his alias) being threatened by Candace and him moving to Los Angeles to start fresh. There too, he couldn’t break his habits and becomes obsessed with another girl, Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti). It is later revealed in the show that Quinn is pregnant with Joe’s child. They both move to a different place to build their ideal home.
Season 2 also throws light on Joe’s past and why he became a creepy psycho killer. The real gut-wrenching revelation the show makes is that all this was planned by Quinn and she is as much a psycho killer as Joe. Now that Joe has been put into the same situation as Beck, will he really see the errors of his ways?
Season 3 might feature a repeat of Joe’s old practices with the ‘girl next door’. It is possible that Love may try to kill Joe when she learns about him creeping up to their neighbour. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Gamble said: “Season one is Back in New York, and season two is Love in LA, and so we are evoking where we would like to go, which is to a much more suburban, insular world where Joe would be a complete fish out of water.” Each season is a new place and a new love interest.
Oh! Joe, when will you understand? But we also know that Joe is a psychopath, delusional and cold-blooded killer. You can’t fool yourself into thinking that he just needs somebody who’s right for him. Nobody’s right for him.
