Matt Reeves’ Vision Will ‘Blow Everyone Away’ Promises ‘The Batman’ Writer

The Batman

The Batman is going to hit theatres next year, and we don’t yet have any idea what the film would be like except some hints here and there. Mattson Tomlin, the co-writer of the movie, however, had some good things to say about the movie’s director in an interview with ComicBook.com.

While Tomlin was as discrete as anyone involved in the new Batman movie, but what he could talk about was the potential that the project holds and how Matt Reeves, the director of the film has a vision that will blow everyone’s minds.

In his exact words, Tomlin said, “I owe so much to Matt Reeves, He’s made me a better writer, pound for pound, and he’s just going to blow everybody away with what’s he doing.”

While this in no way gives us insight into what part of the movie is going to blow us away, but it probably refers to the idea of the whole movie as Matt Reeves is not just the director of the movie but also a co-writer.

Without Tomlin’s words, there were already very high expectations of Reeves, taking into consideration the success he has had with his past project, the Planet of the Apes franchise.

The global situation has led to a delay in the production of the movie, and the production is all set to resume next month, but it would be in a studio rather than a filming location. According to the project runners, there have been no significant delays, warranting a need for the movie release date to shift from October 2021.

Tomlin further talked about the shooting of the movie amidst the coronavirus pandemic and if it has had any effect on The Batman,

“No. I mean, the movie is what it is, and I think that right now the plan is to just execute that vision. They were quite ahead with shooting as it was. And so it really is just how do we finish it safely? How do we make sure everybody can show up for work and then go home and all be okay?”

What do we know so far about The Batman?

Matt Reeves’ take on the Batman starring Robert Pattinson came as a surprise to many fans of the DCEU. The solo Batman movie was given the green light by DC back in 2017 with Ben Affleck helming the project as the director, producer, writer, and the actor.

Initially, Affleck passed the directing role to Matt Reeves, but in 2019, due to some personal issues, Affleck decided to remove himself from the project altogether. In May of the same year, Reeves cast Robert Pattinson as the new Batman, and it was decided that the movie will not feature the Batman that we have got used to in the past few years and the movie will focus on a younger Batman not related to the DCEU.

While we don’t have any idea what the story of the movie is going to be, we have some insight into the characters. The movie will feature The Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz) and iconic villains The Riddler(Paul Dano) and The Penguin (Colin Farrell).

The movie will star Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon and John Turturro as Carmine Falcone.

The Batman is presently set to release in the theatres on 1st October 2021. Also, not only has Reeves talked about potential sequels to the movie, but there will also be a spin-off tv series that is in development and will air soon on HBO Max.

The Batman: Footage to debut at DC Fandome

The details of the movie have been kept super-secret, so we have no idea what’s happening. However, there is a chance that we might get some footage on 22nd August at the DC Fandome, where the Batman is going to be presented. Don’t hold your breath as the filming on the movie is not finished so at best we might only get some still images.

Though the Principal photography of the movie had already begun in January this year in London, it was suspended just one month later in March due to the pandemic.

Earlier this year, everyone was surprised when Reeves decided to tease the movie to the fans. H shared a video of Robert donning the new Batsuit before the film began production. Furthermore, there were still from the set released which featured Pattinson in the complete Batsuit.

The pictures of the Batsuit were followed by reeves revealing the all-new Batmobile. These small glimpses into the vision that Reeves is trying to accomplish with this movie have helped build up the hype for the Batman and fans are already expecting more footage from the movie.

The official description of The Batman panel at the Fandome states that fans will get quite a few surprises which could range from new pictures to cast announcements. Though The Wrap has added that, we might actually get some footage from the movie.

Though there has not been any official confirmation of the panel revealing any footage of the movie, we can still hope.

The Batman had completed seven weeks of filming before the halt and reportedly only 11 weeks of filming is left, so Reeves definitely has some footage to string up a teaser for the fans, but it’s all up for speculation right now.

Though it is possible, we might get some insight into the costumes of the movie’s villains, which will be a treat in itself, though not as great as footage from the movie. Let’s see what The Batman panel on 22nd brings for us.
